Every specimen is unique — and every mineral specimen photography session at our studio reflects that. Shape, size, crystalline structure, play of light: all characteristics that demand a tailored approach. We do not process your minerals in bulk. Every shot is carefully planned, lit and adjusted to reveal what makes your specimen exceptional.
Why Have Your Collection Photographed
Some specimens are too fragile to be handled frequently — repeated contact, human perspiration or prolonged light exposure can irreparably alter a rare piece. Mineral specimen photography allows you to admire, share and present your minerals without ever putting them at risk.
Macro and microphotography reveal what the naked eye cannot always perceive — inclusions, micro-crystals, iridescence and internal structures of extraordinary complexity. An additional dimension to appreciate, document and enhance each specimen in its finest detail.
Your images also constitute a valuable documentary record for insurance purposes — visual proof of the condition, quality and value of each piece. Upon request, each specimen can be photographed alongside a graduated ruler.
Backgrounds
Black background on mirror support for striking reflections and unmatched depth — a technique we favor to enhance the brilliance of the most remarkable specimens. Gray or white background depending on your preferences and the nature of each piece. Background choice is discussed during planning, specimen by specimen when necessary.
What You Get
High-resolution mineral specimen photographs capturing every detail — brilliance, transparency, texture, crystalline structure — with professional lighting adapted to each piece. Sharp, faithful results — whether to document your collection, sell it, insure it or exhibit it.
How It Works
You ship your specimens directly to our studio, or we travel on-site for large collections. Before any shipment, we plan the project together — number of specimens, type of pieces, background preferences — allowing us to provide a return date within one to two days, before you ship anything. Your specimens are handled and stored with the greatest care throughout their stay at the studio. Each piece is photographed individually, with the time and attention it deserves.
Who It’s For
Private collectors, dealers, galleries, museums. Whether you have a single exceptional specimen or a collection of several hundred pieces, every project is handled with the same high standards.
Our mineral photography services are carried out and invoiced by Camarda Visual Studio LLC a visual communication studio based in Farmington, Connecticut. The same team, the same professional standards.
